Dental implants are a great solution to some dental issues. Here, we’ll explain what dental implants are, how they will benefit you, how they are placed, and how long they last.
What Are dental implants?
Dental implants are made of strong materials that act as replacement tooth roots. This helps to create a permanent foundation for replacement teeth that have been lost due to an accident or a dental health issue such as decay. The implants are made of titanium and fuse with the jawbone when they’re implanted, making them strong and immovable. Dental implants are often used for people who are missing a tooth or several, have healthy dental tissues, and have a strong jawbone that is able to support the dental implant. They are also good for people who don’t want to or can’t wear dentures.
How Will Dental Implants Benefit You & Your Oral Health?
Dental implants are a wonderful option for people who need replacement teeth because they look natural, made to match your natural teeth, which will help you feel more confident about your new smile. They are also created specifically for you so they fit perfectly in your mouth. Dental implants are also easier to eat with, won’t change the way you talk, and aren’t as much of a hassle as other options like dentures which can be uncomfortable and are inconvenient in that you have to remove them in public and use dental adhesives to try to make them stay in place.
How Are Dental Implants Placed?
First, we’ll sedate you or put you under local anesthesia so you won’t feel a thing during the procedure. Then, we’ll drill into your bone so that the implant can be screwed right into your jawbone. Then you’ll have to wait about four months for the bone around the implant to heal and then fuse with the implant. When it’s time to place the replacement tooth, which will be custom made for you, we’ll fit that into your implant. And just like that you have a new smile!
How Long Do Dental Implants Last?
Dental implants last a long time. If they are properly cared for, by brushing them twice a day and flossing at least once a day, dental implants can last twenty-five years or even longer. Other tooth replacement options only last about ten to fifteen years.
