You’ve met the dentists and hygienists, now it’s time to meet the dental assistants! We sat down with Yesenia to hear how she got into her career as an assistant and lots of other little details.
Q&A with Romeoville Dental Center Dental Assistant Yesenia
Q. What made you want to become a Dental Assistant or work in a Dental Office?
The medical field always interested me. When I saw an opportunity to get into dental, I jumped on it! It was a little bit daunting at first, but it took no time to realize that I had found the job just for me!
Q: How long have you been a Dental Assistant?
It’s already been almost 10 years! It goes by fast when you love what you do and the people you get to meet along the way.
Q. What’s your philosophy or approach in caring for your patients?
I live life with the Golden Rule in mind: “Treat other people exactly as you would like to be treated by them.” I know how it is to be scared of the unknown. A lot of patients come in with fears because they expect a procedure to be painful or because they had a bad experience in the past. Something that helps me feel more at ease is having someone by my side who is caring and can talk me through the steps and answer all my questions. I strive to be that caring person for all our patients and take my time to be as thorough as possible so all patients leave happier than they came in!
Q. What are your top three tips or pieces of advice for patients?
- Don’t hesitate in asking questions when in doubt! We love talking about teeth!
- Oral health isn’t just about having a pretty smile and fresh breath… it’s about having a healthy body.
- When you grow older and are still able to enjoy a variety of foods with your own healthy teeth, you’ll be grateful you went to the dentist for your routine cleanings and check-ups.
Q. What do you love about Romeoville / Chicagoland? Any favorite spots or best-kept secrets?
I grew up in the Chicagoland area, but it wasn’t until I was a young adult that I started to appreciate what the area truly has to offer. My husband, Sam, and I especially love to explore breweries and restaurants, and Chicago is definitely a great place to enjoy a wide variety!
Q. What are some of your favorite things to do outside of work?
I love spending quality time with Sam. We have so much fun together being silly and making each other laugh. As much as we enjoy exploring new food spots in the city, we also love spending time just relaxing at home. We are true homebodies and look forward to a good staycation. When at home, I like to try out new recipes and my husband is always up for tasting! A few of our favorite go-to dishes have been Guinness Stew and Kimchi Chicken. So delicious!!
